Procedures of Dissertation Work for Graduates

作者: 来源: 澳门老虎游戏机阅读次数:日期:2020年04月03日

For Masters:

                    6 months                              6 months

Proposal ———————— Mid-term ———————— Defense Application & Thesis Submission

1. There is a gap between proposal and mid-term that is usually 6 months and there is also a gap between mid-term and defense application that is also 6 months.

2. Usually defense application is in March for spring semester (if master candidates graduate in June) and in September for autumn semester (if they graduate in December).

3. If master candidates plan to graduate in June, then they should apply for defense in March.

As there are 2 gaps mentioned above, they should submit mid-term report in September (no later than October) of the former year and proposal in March (no later than May) of the former year.

For example, if you are 2019 batch, you should submit proposal in March (no later than May), 2020, and mid-term report in September (no later than October), 2020, and then you can apply for defense in March, 2021. (If things go well, you can graduate in June, 2021.)

4. Two basic procedures of proposal and mid-term submission:

1st, upload the softcopy to GMIS (log in to the new eportal system, click “graduate system” or first “portal system” then “graduate system”).

And ask your supervisor to review and approve it on GMIS.

(for more operating guidance please refer to the attachment below)

2nd, submit the hardcopy with every blank filled in, like comments, conclusion, votes, signatures, dates and so on.

For PhDs:

                       1 year                                  1 year

Proposal —————— Mid-term ———————— Defense Application & Thesis Submission

                                                                               Pre-defense

(At least 1 month earlier than the date of defense application)

1. There is a gap between proposal and mid-term that is usually 1 year and there is also a gap between mid-term and defense application that is also 1 year.

Pre-defense is between mid-term and defense application and it should be at least 1 month earlier than the date of defense application.

2. PhD candidates can apply for defense when they complete all the graduation requirements. But there are only 2 times to graduate every year, which are in June and in December.

Usually defense application is in March for spring semester (if PhD candidates graduate in June) and in September for autumn semester (if they graduate in December).

3. If PhD candidates plan to graduate in June, then they should apply for defense in March.

As there are 2 gaps mentioned above, they should submit mid-term report in March (no later than May) of the former year and proposal in March (no later than July) of the year before the former year. Also, they should submit pre-defense form before or in February.

For example, if you are 2018 batch, you should submit proposal in March (no later than July), 2019, and mid-term report in March (no later than May), 2020. You can submit pre-defense report in February or January 2021, and then you can apply for defense in March, 2021. (If things go well, you can graduate in June 2021.)

4. Two basic procedures of proposal, mid-term and pre-defense submission:

1st, upload the softcopy to GMIS (log in to the new eportal system, click “graduate system” or first “portal system” then “graduate system”).

And ask your supervisor to review and approve it on GMIS.
